The Sounds of Tempus

Audio in Tempus needed to satisfy two vectors: it needed to evoke the feeling of the time period the player was currently in, and it needed to be as bad-ass and epic as only a time-traveling bounty hunter can be.  Some background tracks were remixed using existing open source sound loops and instrumental clips, such as the two below, while others were unedited existing free sound loops.  They were fast-paced, and featured big, epic sounds, whether electronic, orchestral, or rock.

Sound effects were often held to a similar style, though there was greater variance depending on the purpose of the effect.  The small ghost enemies, for example, used softer and slower sounds and wails.  Two of the most awesome sound effects are below.  The first was a roar unleashed by the robotic-alien-Tyrannosaurus-dragon like mount ridden by the second to last boss.  A heavy remix of a variety of roars, it was accompanied by a massive screen shake so as to be as  impactful as  possible when encountered by players.

Max

The second was by far the most worked upon sound effect: a massive ray gun blast unleashed by both player and final boss at the end of the game.  Heavily remixed, it featured sci-fi style lasers, machinery powering up, and the sonic boom of a jet.
